Reflexology (also called reflexology or reflexology) is a pseudoscientific alternative medicine that assumes that all organs and body parts are connected to points on the feet. Reflexology divides the soles of the feet—some also add the hands and ears—into zones corresponding to body parts such as the heart and liver. It states that massaging these zones restores and/or maintains unimpeded energy flow throughout the body, and that the corresponding organ can be felt on the soles of the feet. Reflexology believes that energy flow is the foundation of our health and that illness is the result of energy blockages. However, this contradicts modern medicine (pathology and physiology), which links illness to identifiable causes such as viral and bacterial infections, or to genetic factors. According to reflexology, energy flows in pathways within the human body. We can influence these energy pathways at approximately 800 points in our body. Acupuncture also uses these points, but unlike reflexology, it works with needles inserted into the skin at the reflex points. The easiest places to influence are the hands and feet. Reflexology assumes that the body is divided into ten zones, which are mapped onto the feet. Each foot thus has five zones. In addition, the body is also projected vertically onto the foot – the head is near the toes, and the feet near the heel. Each zone has its own characteristics. By applying pressure to certain points, a specific organ or gland is stimulated elsewhere in the body. According to reflexology, all the points connected to the organs and glands converge on the hands and feet.
