Singing bowls for meditation and relaxation

At TimmersGems, you will find singing bowls in various materials, sizes, and designs. They are used for meditation, yoga, sound sessions, and other moments where peace and sound take center stage.

A singing bowl is a bowl-shaped instrument whose walls and rim vibrate when struck or bowed. This produces a long-sustaining sound with various overtones. Traditional metal singing bowls are primarily known from Asia. For example, there are Nepalese singing bowls with mantras and Buddhist imagery, as well as special Tibetan singing bowls with an older origin.

Different types of singing bowls

Material, size, wall thickness, and weight influence the sound. Larger metal bowls generally produce a deeper and fuller tone, while smaller bowls can sound higher. Additionally, each bowl has its own resonance and combination of overtones.

In addition to metal versions, there are also crystal singing bowls. These are made of quartz and are known for their clear, long-lasting sound. Within a chakra singing bowl set , various bowls are combined that are traditionally associated with the seven chakras.

How do you play a singing bowl?

A singing bowl can be struck gently with a mallet. For a longer sustained tone, a suitable mallet can be moved slowly along the rim. The bowl must be able to vibrate freely enough. A singing bowl cushion provides a stable base and prevents direct contact with a hard table or floor.

Those who wish to combine different sounds can supplement singing bowls with other musical instruments or drums.

Which singing bowl to choose?

When choosing, pay particular attention to material, size, weight, and sound. For example, a bowl for personal use does not need to be the same size as a bowl for group sessions.
