This specimen was formed by a unique geological process in which calcite was deposited on top of pre-existing aragonite stalactites. The aragonite structures originated deep within the mountains of Wenshan, after which mineral-rich solutions subsequently deposited a layer of calcite over the existing formations. As a result, it appears as if the calcite flowed over the aragonite like a liquid stream and was subsequently frozen in time. The result is a beautiful interplay of soft forms, natural textures, and organic structures that make each specimen completely unique.

The region gained international renown thanks to its world-class deep blue hemimorphite specimens with fine surface growth reminiscent of okenite. Only two significant specimens of this famous quality have become known, discovered around 1990/1991 and in 1999. In addition to these rare hemimorphites, the Wenshan region has also produced some truly spectacular calcite and aragonite formations, which are highly prized by collectors worldwide.
