Description
A horoscope is an astrological representation of the heavens, seen from a specific location on Earth at a specific moment. The term derives from the Greek "horoskopos," meaning "watching the hours," and "horoskopoi," meaning "writer of the hour." According to astrology, there is a connection between the positions of celestial bodies such as the sun, moon, and planets and events occurring on Earth. In fact, you can draw up a horoscope for any past, present, or future event. Therefore, this event doesn't necessarily have to be the birth of a person, in which case we call it a birth horoscope. Besides birth horoscopes, there are also, for example, horary horoscopes, which predict the outcome of an event, electional horoscopes for making a choice, mundane horoscopes to predict events at the mundane level (stock market, earthquakes, etc.), and solar horoscopes to predict annual trends. The horoscope indicates the positions of the sun, moon, and planets at a specific time and location. These positions are placed within a framework of houses. These houses are essentially a projection of the twelve signs on Earth, usually counting from the ascendant. Astrologers relate this to events occurring on Earth—past, present, or future. It is assumed that there is a connection between the positions of the celestial bodies and events on Earth.
Predictions are made by drawing a horoscope for future points in time (after all, the paths of the sun, moon, and planets are fixed). In the past, this was a time-consuming task; it took a lot of time to precisely calculate and plot where all the planets were positioned at a given moment. Nowadays, calculating a horoscope is much faster thanks to computers. Horoscope interpretation is also sometimes done with computers, but this always doesn't produce a coherent whole. Astrological predictions haven't become more accurate, but the astrologer now has much more time at his or her disposal to form a complete picture from the multitude of astrological elements, since it is primarily the process of interpretation that takes a lot of time. Since the supposed connection between the positions of celestial bodies and events on Earth, also known as the principle of synchronicity, is not accepted as a scientific explanation, scientists find the accuracy of such predictions questionable.
