Description
A lantern is a brightly colored light used as decoration and to create a festive atmosphere. It can be strung in a garland or carried along to certain celebrations. Children make their own lanterns, which hang on a stick and burn with a candle or battery-powered light, and go door-to-door with them. In some regions of Flanders and the Netherlands, for example, it's customary to have children make lanterns at school. On November 11th (St. Martin's Day), they go from door to door singing, begging for candy or small change. In other regions, this happens on January 6th (Epiphany).
