Description
The pentagram is a five-pointed star and one of the oldest symbols in the world: it was already in use more than 4,000 years before Christ. The word derives from the Greek πεντάγραμμον (pentagrammon), meaning five lines. In Greece, the pentagram is also called pentalfa (= five alphas), because five A's can be recognized in it. Today, the pentagram is primarily used as a symbol in esotericism and occultism. In modern Satanism, an inverted version of the pentagram is used. The pentagram is originally a pre-Christian symbol. Some people therefore consider this symbol to be the sign of Satan (the devil), and it is also common in Wiccan circles. The pentagram is said to have been rejected as a devilish symbol by Constantine the Great in order to convert "pagans" to Christianity.
