The national costume of Indonesia is the national costume that represents the Republic of Indonesia. It is derived from Indonesian culture and Indonesian traditional textile traditions. Today, the most well-known Indonesian national costumes are batik and kebaya, although originally these costumes belonged primarily to the cultures of Java and Bali, being most prominent within Javanese, Sudanese, and Balinese cultures. As a diverse country, Indonesia, with more than 30 provinces, each has its own representation of traditional clothing, and each province has its own unique and distinctive designs. National costumes are worn during official occasions as well as traditional ceremonies. The most obvious display of Indonesian national costumes can be seen in the costumes worn by the President of Indonesia and the Indonesian First Lady for many different occasions and settings, as well as by Indonesian diplomatic officials at gala dinners. Traditional weddings and formal ceremonies in Indonesia are also among the important occasions where Indonesian national costume is clearly visible, ranging from traditional to modern, distinct from each region it represents.
