Description
A tambourine (also called a belt drum in Old Dutch, as in Christmas carols) is a frame drum consisting of a hoop with bell rings attached and a drumhead covered with a drumhead. Without bell rings, it's not a tambourine but a hand drum. If the bell rings are present but no drumhead is tightened, it's a beat ring, or a ring of bells. The instrument is struck or moved by hand. The tambourine is used in many musical styles, such as folk music (for example, in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey), pop, rock, country, and gospel, and South American (samba) and Persian music.
