Description

Very exclusive rock crystal geode from La Bolsa, Artigas – Uruguay – 93 kg

An exceptionally rare rock crystal geode from the famous La Bolsa amethyst mine in Artigas, Uruguay. Such a geode, almost entirely covered in clear to white rock crystal, is already remarkable within this amethyst site, but a specimen of this size is truly spectacular.

According to information from the mine, such rock crystal geodes are encountered only very sporadically. Sometimes years pass before a fine specimen is found. A geode weighing no less than 93 kilograms is therefore among the pieces that immediately stand out, even within a specialized mineral collection.

The geode itself measures approximately 75 × 50 × 19 cm and reaches a total height of about 99 cm.

Why is this rock crystal geode so special?

La Bolsa is primarily known for its spectacular amethyst geodes. However, the geological conditions that normally produce the well-known purple amethyst crystals there can also produce other crystallizations.

In this exceptional specimen, the interior is dominated by rock crystal and white quartz crystals. The very fact that this piece originates from a site world-famous for amethyst makes it particularly interesting. While smaller, more aberrant formations are found occasionally, a virtually complete rock crystal geode weighing 93 kg is a find of a completely different order.

Sourced from the famous La Bolsa amethyst mine

The La Bolsa mine is located in the Artigas department in northern Uruguay. The area around Artigas and Los Catalanes is among the most famous amethyst and agate deposits in the world.

The mineralization is located in ancient volcanic basalt layers. In cavities formed during volcanic processes, minerals were able to precipitate from solutions and crystallize over a very long period. This resulted in the formation of the geodes for which Artigas is internationally known today.

Many geodes show different growth phases, including agate, colorless quartz, and ultimately amethyst. As a result, every opened geode tells, as it were, a part of the geological history of the area.

A rare white appearance among the purple amethysts

When one thinks of Artigas, one thinks almost immediately of deep purple Uruguayan amethyst. That is precisely why this rock crystal geode from La Bolsa so striking.

The crystal cavity consists of an impressive landscape of light, natural quartz crystals. Depending on the angle of light, hundreds of individual crystal faces sparkle. The white, clear, and slightly translucent hues give the specimen a completely different appearance from the well-known purple geodes from the same region.

No less than 93 kilos of natural rock crystal

Weighing 93 kilograms , this is a substantial mineral piece. The geode itself measures approximately 75 × 50 × 19 cm and, including the stand, reaches a total height of approximately 99 centimeters.

This makes it large enough to be presented as a standalone floor object. By directing the mineral's illumination, the crystals are further accentuated, creating a dazzling interplay of light and reflections.

An exceptional opportunity for the collector

For a specialized collector, the beauty of a mineral is not the only important factor. Origin, rarity, size, and mineralogical characteristics play a major role.

It is precisely on these points that this specimen distinguishes itself. A large rock crystal geode from a world-famous Uruguayan amethyst mine is considerably less common than a classic amethyst geode from the same area.

This is therefore a piece for the collector who is not only looking for a beautiful geode, but specifically wants to add an unusual find with a special provenance to his collection.

Exclusive nature artwork for the interior

This rock crystal geode is simultaneously a spectacular interior object. The virtually neutral white and transparent crystal tones pair beautifully with natural stone, wood, black metal, and both modern and classic interiors.

With its height of nearly a meter, it is an impressive eye-catcher for a luxury living room, entrance, hotel lobby, office, executive office, showroom, wellness center, or exclusive shop.

It is a work of nature artwork of which no second identical copy exists.
