Description

Superamethyst moon from La Bolsa Mine, Artigas – Tucson showpiece 2026 – 287 kg

An absolute world-class amethyst moon from the La Bolsa mine in Artigas, Uruguay. Weighing a staggering 287 kilograms, with a total height of 178 cm and an amethyst measuring approximately 114 × 65 × 37 cm, this undoubtedly ranks among the largest amethyst moons we have ever seen.

Whether this is actually the largest amethyst moon in the world cannot be reliably determined. What we can say, however, is that an amethyst moon weighing nearly 300 kilograms and standing 1.78 meters tall is exceptional and belongs in a league of its own.

In addition, this specimen is not only large because of its dimensions. The moon has beautiful natural stalactite formations and crystalline 'hedgehogs', meaning that special crystal structures can be discovered throughout the mineral.

Tucson showpiece 2026

This spectacular specimen was on display and for sale in January 2026 during the mineral shows in Tucson, Arizona. It was prominently displayed on the famous Tucson Mineral Show Strip near the Ramada Hotel and attracted a great deal of attention there due to its size and unusual moon shape.

During the fair, no less than $ 200 per kilo was asked for this amethyst moon .

We were eventually able to purchase the example and can now offer this exceptional Tucson showpiece at a price significantly below the original market level.

One of the largest amethyst moons ever found

Large amethyst geodes from Uruguay are already impressive, but crafting a moon shape of this size requires an exceptionally large and suitable natural starting point.

The finished amethyst moon measures approximately 114 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 37 cm deep. Including the specially crafted stand, the entire piece reaches an impressive height of approximately 178 cm.

At 287 kilograms , this is no longer an ordinary interior decoration. It is a monumental mineral object that, in terms of appearance, belongs in a museum, luxury hotel lobby, gallery, exclusive showroom, or special private collection.

Sourced from the La Bolsa mine in Artigas

The La Bolsa Mine is located in the famous amethyst region of Artigas in northern Uruguay. The region around Artigas and Los Catalanes enjoys great international renown for its spectacular amethyst and agate geodes.

The minerals are found in cavities within ancient volcanic basalt layers. During prolonged geological processes, various generations of silica minerals were able to form in these cavities. As a result, we often see a combination of agate, quartz, and amethyst.

The deep purple colors and unique crystal formations, in particular, have given amethyst from Artigas an excellent reputation worldwide.

Unusual stalactites and crystalline hedgehogs

What makes this enormous amethyst moon extra special are the stalactite-like crystal formations. Instead of exclusively displaying a flat field with crystal points, the specimen contains striking three-dimensional structures.

In addition, there are beautiful crystalline formations present that, due to their spiky shape, are reminiscent of small crystal cones . Light falls on the crystal points from various directions, causing different parts of the moon to begin to sparkle each time.

It was precisely this combination of size, shape, and crystal structure that made this specimen suitable to present as a showpiece during Tucson.

No less than 178 cm high

With a total height of 1.78 meters , this amethyst moon is approximately the height of an adult. That gives a good impression of how impressive the mineral actually is.

In photographs, a large mineral can sometimes be difficult to estimate to scale. Only when standing in front of this specimen do you truly experience its enormous dimensions.

The open moon shape ensures that the whole remains elegant at the same time. The curved form gives the amethyst a sculptural and almost floating appearance, despite its enormous weight.

A natural work of art for an exclusive interior

This super amethyst moon is ideally suited as a statement piece. In a grand entrance, hotel lobby, luxury living room, executive office, wellness center, gallery, or mineral showroom, it immediately attracts attention.

Directed lighting makes the effect even more spectacular. The hundreds of crystal faces, stalactites, and crystalline formations reflect the light from different angles, causing the mineral to look different throughout the day.

It is the combination of nature, geology, sculpture, and exclusive interior art that makes an object of this level so special.
