What is Muscovite?
Muscovite is a mineral of the mica group and is known for its characteristic plate-shaped crystals. The mineral has perfect cleavage, allowing it to split into very thin, flexible layers.
The crystals often have a vitreous to pearlescent luster. Depending on the composition and the angle of light, the colors can vary from virtually colorless and silvery to beige, brownish, or light golden.
It is precisely these highly reflective crystal faces that cause muscovite to sparkle particularly beautifully under lighting.
Muscovite combined with rock crystal
In these pieces, the muscovite is situated in a matrix that also rock crystal or quartz . The combination of shiny, plate-shaped muscovite crystals and the lighter rock crystal creates a strong contrast.
