What is a dorje or vajra?
The Tibetan name Dorje corresponds to the Sanskrit word Vajra. It is an important ritual symbol within Tibetan Buddhism and Vajrayana Buddhism.
The Vajra symbolizes, among other things, indestructibility and strength. The term is traditionally translated into meanings associated with both diamond and lightning: hard and indestructible like a diamond, and powerful like a lightning bolt.
Dorjes are used within Tibetan Buddhist traditions for rituals and meditation and are often combined with a ritual bell.
