Description

Amethyst crater on rotating stand from La Cordillera, Artigas – Uruguay – 107 kg

An exceptionally beautiful amethyst crater from Artigas, Uruguay, with a spectacular crystal cavity and a beautiful natural agate rim surrounding the amethyst. Due to its broad, open shape, this special geode is reminiscent of a crater: an impressive landscape of purple crystals that deepens inward.

This amethyst comes from the La Cordillera mine in Artigas and weighs no less than 107 kilos . The geode itself measures approximately 78 × 69 × 49 cm and reaches a total height of about 98 cm on the stand .

The entire piece stands on a specially crafted, rotating black wrought-iron stand with a diameter of 55 cm. This allows this enormous nature artwork to be easily presented in the desired viewing direction.

Unusual crater-like shape

Whereas many large amethyst geodes have an elongated or cathedral-like shape, this specimen distinguishes itself by its striking broad crater model.

The open crystal cavity draws the eye directly to the center of the stone. Surrounding the amethyst is a beautiful agate rim with natural bands and color transitions. This makes the structure of the geode particularly beautifully visible.

The contrast between the dark exterior, the light agate and quartz layers, and the purple amethyst crystals makes this an impressive specimen.

Amethyst from Artigas in Uruguay

The Artigas department in northern Uruguay is one of the most famous amethyst regions in the world. The region is internationally known for amethyst geodes with often intensely purple crystals and beautiful agate formations.

The geodes are located in old volcanic basalt layers. In cavities in the rock, mineral-rich solutions were able to deposit various minerals during very long geological processes.

In this process, layers of agate and quartz often formed first , after which crystals could grow on the inside. It is precisely this succession that is beautifully visible in many high-quality Uruguayan geodes.

Sourced from the La Cordillera mine

This amethyst crater comes from the La Cordillera mine in Artigas. The mining area around Artigas is popular with mineral traders and collectors because of the quality and color of the amethyst found there.

Large geodes are carefully removed from the hard basalt, only then does it become clearly visible what has developed inside the closed cavity over millions of years.

As a result, every geode is a surprise and completely unique. Shape, crystal size, color intensity, agate bands, and the depth of the crystal cavity vary from specimen to specimen.

Beautiful natural agate rim

An important detail of this amethyst is the beautiful agate rim. Agate consists of very fine-crystalline quartz and can deposit itself in various layers along the original wall of a geode.

These layers form natural lines and patterns that lie like a frame around the amethyst. As a result, it looks almost as if nature itself has created a frame around the purple crystal landscape.

In this piece, the agate rim contributes significantly to the exclusive appearance.

Rotating black wrought iron stand

A mineral weighing 107 kilos calls for a sturdy and representative presentation. Therefore, this crater stands on a robust black wrought-iron stand with a diameter of approximately 55 cm.

The stand rotates, so the heavy geode does not need to be moved every time to find the ideal presentation angle. You simply rotate the entire mineral to the desired position.

Moreover, the matte black metal forms a stylish contrast with the natural earth tones, agate layers, and purple crystals.

Almost one meter high

Including the stand, this spectacular specimen has a total height of approximately 98 cm. The geode itself is particularly substantial at 78 × 69 × 49 cm and, thanks to its great depth, has an impressive three-dimensional appearance.

With good spotlighting, the individual crystal points become visible and countless small light reflections appear in the crater.

This makes the piece perfectly suited for a luxury living room, entrance, hotel lobby, office, executive office, showroom, wellness center, or exclusive mineral shop.

A museum-worthy work of nature artwork

Large Uruguayan amethysts are situated at the intersection of mineralogy, natural history, and interior art. Therefore, a specimen like this crater certainly does not have to end up exclusively with a mineral collector.

In a luxury interior, the mineral can function as a natural sculpture. The combination of its nearly one-meter height, enormous crystal cavity, and rotating black stand ensures that the object can be placed independently in a room.

And unlike a manufactured work of art, there is only one of this amethyst.
