The “Royal” Blue Stone
The history of this mine, often associated with the famous Cerro Sapo mine, dates back to long before the time of the Incas. Indigenous peoples already valued this stone for its intense blue color and exceptional beauty. Archaeological findings show that sodalite was incorporated into beads, jewelry, and figurines found in ancient highland ruins.
Later, mining was continued by the Jesuits, who so appreciated the stone's distinctive deep blue color that they used it for religious ornaments and even for the chains of archbishops. As a result, sodalite acquired the reputation of a true “Royal Blue Stone”.
