The Gemstone Peace Sign
The peace sign is a symbol designed in 1958 by British designer and artist Gerald Holtom. He did this at the request of the peace movement, which campaigned for nuclear disarmament. The symbol is derived from the “Semaphore Flag Signalling System”. The vertical line is “D” for “Disarmament” and the two diagonal lines to either side are “N” for “Nuclear” and “U” for “Unilateral”. However, the sign stylized and designed by Holtom is of much older date; the symbol inside the circle is the inverted Algiz rune. To many, Algiz stands for life, while the inverted Algiz stands for death. In modern times, this Yr rune is used as the rune of death. Among the Nazis, the Yr rune was and is used as an alternative to the Christian cross. The peace sign is said to have been “adopted” from the broken, upside-down hanging cross that was a symbol of the persecution of Christians during the time of the Roman Emperor Nero. Is there any reason to assume that the same symbol must always mean the same thing, and that there is a meaningful connection between the death rune, the peace symbol, and the symbol of the persecution of Christians? At Timmersgems, we have many types of peace signs in, among others: Amethyst, Rose Quartz, Rock Crystal, Jade, Tiger's Eye, etc. etc.

Gemstones are rare rocks, usually cut and incorporated into jewelry and decorative objects. Gemstones possess the following characteristics: Beauty. This includes visual aspects such as color, luster, fire, transparency, and light effects. Durability. This considers hardness, fragility/cleavage, and chemical resistance. Rarity. This considers how often a product occurs in nature. Gemstones can be cut into many different shapes. The basic distinction is between cabochon, in which the gemstone is cut into a convex shape, and faceted, in which the surface of the gemstone is cut into various facets. Cutting considers various properties of the stone, including color, color distribution, inclusions, special light effects, dispersion, and fracture and cut surfaces. They are processed into necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and many other jewelry items, but gemstones are also used in industry for processing. Well-known gemstones include diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, aquamarines, topazes, tourmalines, amethysts, citrines, carnelians, opals, onyxes, turquoises, lapis lazuli, and garnets. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, it was fashionable to make jewelry incorporating a person's name or initials. The choice of gemstones was guided by the first letter of the gemstone's name, thus giving rise to the gemstone alphabet. Similar acrostic jewelry was also created during the 19th century, expressing sentiments in gemstones. The most well-known is the English "regard" ring, an engagement ring in which the word "regard" was formed by the gemstones ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, and diamond
