The Orang Malu, literally translated as the 'shy man', is also known as Yogiman or Weeping Buddha and has Indonesian and Indian origins. What makes this statue unique, besides the tropical suar wood from which it is made, is the symbolism it radiates. The introverted, meditating Buddha can be viewed from various angles. At first glance, it appears to be a crouching man in a kind of fetal position. The story behind this is that the man is ashamed of the evil and suffering in the world. When viewed from the front, the Buddha is a statue of a smiling man, symbolizing rebirth and goodness. When looking at the Buddha from behind, you see the shape of a human heart. In his heart, he is happy and has found peace within himself. According to legend, you place the Orang Malu facing the door. Visitors stroke the statue's head upon entering, after which any unpleasant thoughts are absorbed. In this way, visitors always enter with good intentions.
