Description
Mortolite is actually green chalcedony, a semi-precious stone and a variety of the mineral quartz. Its color ranges from almost white to light blue or dove blue, often streaked. The stone is also found in apple green (called chrysoprase), pink, red (called carnelian variety), brown (called sardine), and copper. It is found in Brazil, Madagascar, Uruguay, India, the United States, and Great Britain, among other places. The bright blue chalcedony comes from Namibia and is becoming increasingly rare, increasing its value. In ancient times, figurines of weather gods were carved from chalcedony. Chalcedony is attributed with several medicinal properties, namely for hoarseness, tonsillitis, vocal cord problems, and varicose veins. According to various literature, chalcedony is associated with the zodiac signs Cancer and Sagittarius.
