Heliotrope is a mineral and a variety of quartz, more specifically a variant of chalcedony. Heliotrope is a two-tone nesosilicate. The base color is dark green, with red points. The name heliotrope is derived from the Greek helios, meaning sun, and trepein, "to turn." The classic source of heliotrope is the Kathiawar Peninsula in northwestern India. Today, it is also mined in Brazil and Australia.
