Description
The mineral scheelite is a calcium tungstate with the chemical formula CaWO4. The transparent to translucent colorless, white, or yellowish scheelite has a vitreous luster, a white streak color, and the mineral's cleavage is distinct along the crystal plane [010]. The crystal system is tetragonal. Scheelite has an average density of 6.01, a hardness of 4 to 5, and is not radioactive. The mineral is named after the Swedish chemist Karl Wilhelm Scheele (1742–1786). The type locality of scheelite is the Bispberg Iron Mine, Säter, Dalarna, Sweden.
