Description
The mineral papagoite is a calcium-copper-aluminum silicate with the chemical formula CaCuAlSi2O6(OH)3. It belongs to the cyclosilicates. The transparent to translucent light-blue papagoite has a vitreous luster, a light-blue streak color, and imperfect cleavage along the crystal plane [100]. Papagoite has an average density of 3.25 and a hardness of 5 to 5.5. The crystal system is monoclinic, and the mineral is not radioactive. The mineral is named after the Papago Indian tribe of Arizona, United States. Papagoite is a secondary mineral found primarily near other copper-bearing rocks. The type locality is the Ajo Mine, Poma County, Arizona, USA.
