Description
The transparent variety, iolite, is often used as a gemstone. The name is derived from the Greek word for violet. Another name is dichroite, which in Greek means "two-colored stone." Iolite is mined in Sri Lanka, Burma, Australia's Northern Territory, Namibia, Brazil, Tanzania, and Madagascar, among other places. Iolite, or Water Sapphire, is a spiritual stone and stimulates insight and knowledge. It promotes independence and responsibility, thus reducing problems with dependency (on both substances and people) and addictions. The stone also promotes healthy and equal relationships. It helps you discover who you are and gives you the strength to be yourself. (Often used and enhanced with Rose Quartz.) Physically, iolite has antipyretic and antibacterial properties and has a positive effect on the respiratory system, malaria, migraines, and the pituitary gland. Water Sapphire/Iolite has antibacterial properties and helps prevent fat storage in the body.
