Description
A display case is a showcase whose contents can be viewed from multiple sides. This is because the walls are made of glass (French: vitre), although other materials, such as Perspex, are also used today. There are also display cases in the form of a table, where objects are displayed lying down under a transparent top wall. Display cases can be found, for example, in museums, showrooms, shops, or private homes. The use of a display case with a transparent glass or plastic partition can be for the following reasons: to protect or secure objects from contact or from climatic influences; to "light" an object specifically—even literally, as directional light sources often enhance its attention-grabbing effect; to prevent theft of valuable goods (antiques, jewelry, mobile phones); to display private collections or valuables.
