Description
Alaskan Silkstone is a tiger's eye/petrified wood combination stone with a beautiful, silky-smooth surface and a satin finish. It features black stripes that wrap around a grayish-white background. The Romans were experts in glyptography (the carving of layered stones to reveal different colors) and made beautiful seals from this stone. The patterns are carved in negative relief. Engravings with a negative image are called intaglios, and those with a raised image are called cameos. In the Middle East, tiger's eye was associated with sorcerers.
