Description
The mineral wulfenite is a lead molybdate with the chemical formula PbMoO4. Orange-yellow, olive-green, or brown wulfenite has a greasy luster, a yellowish-white streak color, and imperfect cleavage along the crystal plane [101]. Its average density is 6.75 and its hardness is 3. The crystal system is tetragonal, and the mineral is not radioactive. The mineral wulfenite is named after the Austrian mineralogist Franz Xaver von Wulfen (1728–1805). Wulfenite is a secondary lead mineral that forms a series with stolzite. The type locality is Blieberg, Villach, Carinthia, Austria.
