Description

Vanadinite is colorless, yellow to reddish-brown and has a brownish-yellow streak color and does not cleave. Its average density is 6.94 and its hardness is 3.5 to 4. The crystal system is hexagonal, and the mineral is not radioactive. The mineral's name vanadinite is derived from its composition. Vanadinite is common as an oxidation product in lead ores. The type locality is Zimapan, Hildalgo, Mexico.
