Tiger iron is a rock composed of hematite, which forms silvery layers, red, yellow, or brown jasper, and golden-yellow to golden-brown tiger's eye. As a raw stone, tiger iron is usually rusty red. It emanates red. The stone's color depends on the proportions of tiger's eye (yellowish-brown hues), jasper (red), and hematite (silver). Tiger iron is always distinctly striped, like a tiger. Tiger iron belongs to the oxides and quartz classes. By folding and compressing the underlying layer of jasper, hematite, and tiger's eye, a layered structure of jasper, hematite, and tiger's eye is created. Tiger iron forms enormous masses that can weigh tons. It is found in South Africa, India, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia, among other places.
