Larimar, also called the Stone of Atlantis or Delphinstone, has been very popular and expensive for years because it is found in only half a square kilometer in the world.

Description

Larimar is a mineral, a rare variety of pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic, at the Los Chupaderos site in the Sierra de Baoruco mountain range. Larimar can be found in white, light blue, greenish-blue, and dark blue. Pectolite is always white, except in its Larimar variety. In Larimar, the calcium is replaced by cobalt, hence the blue color, which is also called volcanic blue. Although pectolite can be found in several places on earth, Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic. This is partly why it is popularly called the Atlantis Stone (it is said that the Dominican Republic was part of Atlantis). Larimar is named after the daughter of the stone's discoverer, Miguel Méndez, Larissa, and the Spanish word mar = sea.
