Mangano calcite, also known as manganoan calcite, is a manganese calcium carbonate mineral and a member of the calcite family. Its color can range from light to dark pink, depending on the manganese content. White calcite inclusions are common in this crystal, sometimes in a banded formation. This mineral was first discovered in 1846 by A. Breithaupt in Banská, Štiavnica, Slovakia. He named it after the manganese content found in it, sparking debate about what constitutes true mangano calcite compared to what constitutes pink calcite. Ultimately, a consensus was reached, and a threshold of 30% manganese (carbonate) in the crystal structure was established. Unfortunately, every type of pink calcite sold on the market today is labeled as "mangano calcite," making it very difficult to obtain.
