Salvia yerba, also known as yerba sage, is a well-known and widely used product, particularly within shamanism, among the indigenous peoples of Central America, also known as Native Americans. It is part of purification ceremonies in which these herbal plants are smoldered and the resulting smoke is utilized. It stimulates visions and dispels negative energy and harmful entities. Scientific research has even shown that 94% of the bacteria in a room are destroyed after burning this herb. Yerba Santa is therefore a purification method that also alters your state of consciousness. It is made from the Eriodictyon californicum plant in the American Southwest.
Yerba sage differs from white sage in the aroma it releases when burned. Sage has a sharp, penetrating scent, often described as spicy. Not everyone finds this scent pleasant. Therefore, it's more of a functional scent than a pleasant home fragrance. The yerba variety gives this spicy sage a slightly sweetish aroma.
Bound Yerba. Once the leaves are dry, they can be burned. This is a 22 cm long bundle of sage. This makes it easy to light. Once the top of the bundle is lit, you can fan it with a feather, spreading the sacred smoke over objects, people, and into every corner of a room. The herb received its name from Spanish monks who were impressed by its healing properties. It was used for ancestor worship, but also to enhance psychic abilities and to combat physical ailments such as coughs.
