Heliodor is a light yellow-green beryl. The name is Greek for gift from the sun (helios = sun doron = gift). This berilvariëteit was discovered in Namibia in 1910. it has always been a beloved gemstone because of its soft tones. First found in Namibia, near Otavi and Rossing. Heliodor from Namibia contains small additions of uranium and is slightly radioactive. The stones are also found on the island of Madagascar, in the pegmatites of Miami, Bikita and Salisbury. Brazil has become a major producer of helio through. Probably the most attractively and greatest are the helio mandrel from the pegmatites in the area of Schitomir in Ukraine. The biggest yellow-green by Helio was 35 x 15 cm. Also found in the Urals (Mursinka) are helio mandrel, as in the Trans-Baikal region and in Sweden (Varuträsk). In museum collections are generally cut stones, weighing more than 100 carats. The Smithsonian Institution in Washington has a cut yellow beryl weighing 133.5 carats and a kattenoogheliodoor from Madagascar from 43.5 carats. In the British Museum in London is a cut yellow Helio by weighing 82.25 carats and a crystal from Madagascar with a length of 27 cm and a weight of 4 kg. The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto has a yellow polished stone of 78.8 carats from Brazil.
