Pendulum dowsing refers to answering (life) questions using a pendulum, an often drop-shaped metal, glass, or wooden object on a wire or chain. Pendulum dowsing, like dowsing, is considered a form of radiesthesia and divination. Pendulum dowsing is used, among other things, to find possible answers to (life) questions or to detect so-called "energies." There is no scientific evidence that pendulum dowsing would work, but people who use the pendulum believe that the instrument works well. When dowsing, one holds the end of a flexible wire, rope, or chain with a length of 5–10 centimetres. An object made of metal, glass, wood, or other material hangs on the other end, which functions as a small weight. This weight can have all kinds of shapes and sizes. Carefully ask questions to ensure a satisfactory answer. Therefore, it's crucial to ask the question precisely and limit one's inquiry to one at a time. The pendulum could then confirm the question or answer it with 'no' by moving it in a specific way. Sometimes, dowsers use a pendulum card, which depicts a number of possible answers or an alphabet. Because the pendulum can move in all directions, using a pendulum card provides more options for interpreting the answer in greater detail beyond just orientation. The pendulum card is one of the many tools that complementary therapists use to access clients' subconscious.
