The Tyrannosaurus rex, or T. rex, was one of the most iconic predators that ever walked the earth. It lived about 66 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period, just before a mass extinction ended the age of the dinosaurs. The T. rex dominated its ecosystem as an apex predator, hunting large herbivores such as the Triceratops. Some scientists believe it also ate carrion when necessary. Scientists continue to find numerous dinosaur fragments! Palaeontologists regularly discover new fossils, ranging from bones and teeth to footprints and even fossilised skin impressions. These finds help scientists learn more about the lives of dinosaurs and how they adapted to their environment.
