Scapolite is a mineral group from the isomorphic series between maria left and mejoniet. Both belong to the tectosilicates. The transparent to translucent white, gray, yellow, brown or pale pink scapolite has a glass sheen, a white stripe color and cleavage is clear, according to the crystal surfaces [100] and [110]. Scapolite has an average density of 2.66, and the hardness is 6. The crystal system is tetragonal and the mineral is not radioactive. The name of the mineral scapolite is derived from the Greek words skapos ( "staff") and lithos, meaning "stone".
