More information

The Dutch word vuren is the standard name for the wood of the Norway spruce (Picea abies). It is also called pine.In the Netherlands, spruce is the most used type of coniferous wood, and therefore
the most used type of wood. It is not only easy to edit but also relatively inexpensive. The color of spruce is pale to whitish yellow with a soft and coarse pattern. After prolonged exposure to light it turns yellow-brown. To prevent discolouration, the wood type must be finished quickly. There is no striking resin odor like with pine. Firing is not very durable: it is hard to withstand moisture. vuren is a relatively easy to impregnate, paint, pickle and varnish type of wood. This can of course considerably increase sustainability. Even when used under water it stays good for a long time (piles).
Firing is mainly used in construction: roof constructions, interior frames, style and control work etc. The finer qualities are eligible for painting interior carpentry. Fire can also be found in bookcases and storage racks. It is widely sold in do-it-yourself stores and hardware stores: since the lesser qualities have many knots, which may fall out after drying, it is desirable for certain applications to check for appearance. The wood is mostly imported from Scandinavia and the Baltic region (including Russia), but also from Central Europe. The best quality wood comes from somewhat colder areas, where the trees grow more slowly, resulting in finer growth rings. Very fine years (narrow growth rings) fires from Central Europe are used in musical instrument construction.
