The pentagram is a five-pointed star and one of the oldest symbols in the world: it was already used more than 4000 years before Christ. The word comes from the Greek πεντάγραμμον (pentagrammon), meaning five lines. In Greece, the pentagram is also called pentalfa (= five alphas), because it contains five A's. The pentagram is nowadays mainly used as a symbol in esotericism and occultism. In modern Satanism, an inverted version of the pentagram is used. The pentagram is originally a pre-Christian symbol. This sign is therefore also seen by some people as the sign of Satan (the devil) and it is also common in Wiccan circles. The pentagram is said to have been rejected as a diabolical symbol by Constantine the Great to convert "pagans" to Christianity.
