Rose Quartz (Stone of Love) is a quartz variety. The color varies from dark pink to very light, translucent pink. Rose quartz named after the pink color is often cracked and usually slightly cloudy, The color-giving substances are titanium and manganese. The color can fade, very small rutile needles cause a six-beam star for cabochon cutting. Rose quartz has been treated as a gemstone for a long time. The best rose quartz are extracted in Madagascar. Cat effect-rose quartz is found in Sri Lanka. It also occurs in Kenya, Mozambique and Namibia. In Brazil there are numerous sites, in Minas Gerais rose quartz was found for the first time in 1959, some rose queens from Brazil show cat-like flaws or asterism. In the United States rose quartz is found in the states of Maine, California, South Dakota and Colorado. Asterism occurs in rose quartz from New York and Georgia. Russia, Kazakhstan, India and Japan also supply rose quartz. It is rare that rose quartz of more than 20 carats is facetted. In the American Museum of Natural History there is a ball of rose quartz of 625 carats that shows asterism.
