Parakeets are small parrots with a long tail compared to the height of the body, the budgerigar is perhaps the best known. Originally, the budgerigar is a native bird from Australia. This bird is bred and kept in captivity in many Western countries. Furthermore, the term "parakeet" is a general term for smaller parrot species from different taxonomic groups. If a bird is called parakeet, that does not mean that it is closely related to other birds called parakeet. However, all birds that are called parakeet belong to the order of parrots (Psittaciformes).
