In April 2015 I went to an Irish harp maker and player, and have recently extended our collection with the harp and flute. Very good sound.

A bamboo flute is a wind instrument made from a bamboo stalk; there are many types of in worldwide use, especially in the folk music, as can be seen on this list of bamboo flutes. The oldest types of bamboo flutes are played like a flute, ie the performer tone production itself completely controls his lips. Some such instruments are literally played crosswise, like the North Indian bansuri, other half crosswise, as the kaval from the Balkans, or the ney from Asia Minor. Still others use a sharpened edge and be right played as the shakuhachi in Japan or kena from South America, which has an incised additional gap to facilitate tone production. The method of play is with modern instruments, sometimes also similar to that of the recorder: the tone is in the instrument largely automatically formed by the construction with the aid of a block (je). The tone of the bamboo flute is always relatively soft, due to the softness and the low weight of the material.
