Moss agate is a semi-precious stone. The stone thanks its name to the green inclusions (drawings) that resemble moss. Mosaic is a variety of agate. The white background of the mosquito consists of quartz. The dendritic inclusions are chlorite or iron and manganese minerals which are very similar to moss. Depending on the valence of the metal, the inclusions display different colors. Mosagat therefore contains no organic material despite the name. The stone is formed of weathered volcanic rock. The chemical structure of mosquito is identical to that of jasper, flint and hornet, all as well as quartz variants. The green / blue / red / yellow and brown stones are polished / sharpened for jewelry or as talisman. The main sites of mos agate are India, China, USA and occasionally in South Africa and Brazil. Mos agate is found in the United States, among other things, in the deposits of the Yellowstone River and its tributaries, between Sidney (Montana) and Billings (Montana). In this variant, Montana called mosquito, the red color is caused by iron (III) oxide (rust) and the black by manganese (IV) oxide.
