Brazil is not only home to much of the world’s Quartz gemstones, but by default, also home to some of the world’s best Quartz lapidaries. Semitransparent to translucent, Lavender Quartz is finished eye-clean, the highest quality clarity grade for colored gemstones. Lavender Quartz is a variety of macrocrystalline (large crystal) Quartz that comes in rare lavenders, a pastel tint of violet (medium violet or a light pinkish-purple). Neither Amethyst nor a Chalcedony, this uncommon addition to the Quartz family has it owns unique color and is only available from a single mine. Mined directly from host rock, Lavender Quartz comes from the Boquira Mine in the municipality (município) of Oliveira dos Brejinhos in the northern Brazilian state of Bahia. The Borquria Mine opened in 1956 and is currently no longer producing.
