Aegirine from Canada aegirien The mineral is a sodium-iron-inosilicaat having the chemical formula NaFe3 + (Si2O6). It belongs to the pyroxenes. Green, reddish-brown or black aegirien has a gray stripe yellow color, a glass luster and cleavage is evident by unknown crystal faces. The average density is 3.52 and the hardness is 6 to 6.5. The crystal system is monoclinic, and the mineral is not radioactive. The mineral is named after aegirien Aegir, the Teutonic god of the sea. Aegirien is a common pyroxene which is formed mainly in sodium rich nepheline syenieten. The type locations are the Konsberg in Buskerud, Norway and the Magnet Cove, Hot Spring County, Arkansas, USA The mineral is also found on the Russian Kola Peninsula, in Quebec, Canada and Utah.
