The transparent variant Iolite is often used as a gemstone. The name is derived from the Greek word for violet. Another name is dichroite, which means "two-colored stone" in Greek. Iolite is mined in Sri Lanka, Burma, Australia's Northern Territory, Namibia, Brazil, Tanzania and Madagascar. Iolite or water sapphire is a spiritual stone and stimulates insight and knowledge. It promotes independence and responsibility and thus reduces problems with dependency (on both substances and people) and addictions. The stone also promotes healthy and equal relationships. It helps you discover who you are and gives you the strength to be yourself.
