Myanmar or Burma (officially Republic of the Union of Myanmar; obsolete: Burma) is a country in Southeast Asia. Myanmar borders Bangladesh and northeast India to the northwest, China to the north, and Laos and Thailand to the east. In the southwest it has a long coastline with the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea (parts of the Indian Ocean). Since November 7, 2005, the capital has officially been the centrally located Naypyidaw (near Pyinmana), although the move only started on that date. The ancient capital of Yangon (Yangon), the largest city in the country, is still considered the capital of Belgium, the European Union and the United States, among others. The Netherlands recognizes the new capital.
