Zion National Park is a nature reserve in the United States. It became a National Monument in 1909, and a National Park in 1919, in 1937 the park was expanded to include Kolob. This park was named 'Zion' by Mormon pioneers in 1860. The Mormons or "Latter-day Saints of Jesus Christ" are a religion mainly based in Utah. Derived from the Biblical 'Zion', this came to mean for them a place of peace and safety. The name Kolob also comes from their writings, it means: the first creation, a place close to God. Around the beginning of the Christian era, "Anasazi" or ancient Pueblo peoples lived here until about 1200. Then the Paiute tribe lived here until the Mormon pioneers arrived. Aragonite is found in geysers, hot springs, caves, as oolites in shallow seas, in shells and in pearls.
