Gems have been coming from Turkey since time immemorial, without a doubt the Zultanite (Sultanite) is one of the best known, but certainly in the remote villages and remote areas many beautiful stones and gems come up. For example, Turkey has many Calcite species, but also the Quartz and Agate are richly represented. Fossils are also common with names in southern Turkey. The 2 cities most famous for trading stones and gems are Izmir and Ankara. The International Gem Society's gemstone list contains information on many of the Turkish gemstones, such as adamite, chalcedony, jet, powellite, and Turkish purple jade. Colemanite is normally colorless and difficult to cut. Mostly found in the Mustafakemalpascha mine in western Turkey.
