Capitol Reef is an American national park south of Salt Lake City that was established in 1971 but has been a national monument since 1937. The Fremont River flows through the area. Centrally located in the park is the town of Fruita, founded by Mormons around 1880. It was originally called Junction after the confluence of the Fremont River and Sulfur Creek. This park was given this name because one of the hills resembles the Capitol in Washington D.C. Aragonite is always formed at low temperatures close to the Earth's surface. Aragonite is found in geysers, hot springs, caves, as oolites in shallow seas, in shells and in pearls.
