The mineral galena or galena (also known as galena) is a lead-sulfide, more precisely: lead (II) sulfide, having the chemical formula PbS. The galenietkristallen are generally cubic, but sometimes octahedral. The mineral often occurs with sphalerite (sphalerite) and fluorite (fluorspar). Deposits of galena are found in Germany, France, Romania, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Scotland, England, Australia and Mexico. In the United States, comes in for the mineral Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Wisconsin. Galena is primarily found in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites around, and in veins in limestone and dolomite with sphalerite. Galena was in the Babylonians already known, and the Romans it was a coveted substance such use demonstrates the aqueducts. The name for galena galena is of Roman origin. In ancient Egypt was used in the mineral beads. Galena is an important ore. Furthermore, it also finds application as a silver ore in the silver industry by inclusions of argentite, where lead is a byproduct. Due to the special electrical properties, it was used in the time of the radio pioneer for making a crystal receiver. For its dark gray color galena was used as a pigment. So was ground galena as eye shadow used in many Arab countries.
