lavender:
(Lavandula) is a shrub of the lip flower family (Lamiaceae). The devil doesn't like lavender because of its overpowering and delicious scent; that repels the devil, thought the people of the long-forgotten past. Instead of the devil, they actually meant a demon that could make you sick. germs will run if they smell the scent of lavender because they know they don't stand a chance against the healing and dispelling effect. Lavandula Vera. Lavendula comes from the Latin word lavendulus which means 'what needs to be washed'. The ancient Romans and other peoples from antiquity such as the Carthaginians used lavender as soap and bathed it for the nice smell in combination with the healing power.

Characteristics:
Lavender can be found in many gardens because of the purple color and the scent of the flowers. The shrub does not grow higher than a meter and no wider than half a meter. The flowers are pointed and can grow up to eight centimeters long. Lavender is also used as an ornamental plant.

Lavender in ancient times:
In ancient Egypt, lavender was often used to make perfumes. Cleopatra is said to have seduced Julius Caesar the emperor with it. Possibly the Phoenicians imported the Lavandula into France and Spain with other herbs. In 700 BC they founded Marseille. Cedar and the essential oil of aspic were mentioned in Jerome Brunschwig's book on distillation from 1500. He referred to it as oleum de spica of Provence. In 1543, in his Dispensatorium Noricum, Valerius Cordus mentioned three essential oils: cedar, aspic and juniper. In ancient times, lavender was mainly used for external applications, such as for cleansing the skin, in perfumes and to repel insects. Later also for internal applications.
