Lavender : (Lavandula) is a shrub of the lipflower family (Lamiaceae). The devil dislikes lavender because of its overpowering and wonderful scent; that repels the devil, or so the people of the long-forgotten past thought. Instead of the devil, they actually meant a demon that could make you sick. germs run when they smell the scent of lavender because they know they don't stand a chance against the healing and repellent effect. Lavandula Vera. Lavendula comes from the Latin word lavendulus which means: 'what needs to be washed'. The ancient Romans and other ancient peoples such as the Carthaginians used lavender as soap and bathed it for its pleasant scent in combination with its healing powers. Characteristics: Lavender can be found in many gardens because of the purple color and scent of the flowers. The bush does not exceed a meter in height and does not exceed half a meter in width. The flowers are point-shaped and can grow up to eight centimeters long. Lavender is also used as an ornamental plant. Lavender in ancient times: In ancient Egypt, lavender was often used to make perfumes. Cleopatra would have seduced Julius Caesar the emperor with it. Possibly the Phoenicians imported the Lavandula into France and Spain with other herbs. In 700 BC they founded Marseille. Cedar and the essential oil of aspic were mentioned in Jerome Brunschwig's book on distillation of 1500. He named it as oleum de spica of Provence. In 1543, Valerius Cordus, in his Dispensatorium Noricum, listed three essential oils: cedar, aspic, and juniper. In ancient times, lavender was mainly used for external applications, such as for cleansing the skin, in perfumes and to repel insects. Later also for internal applications. Lavender, love herb: From ancient times, lavender carries with it the property of being a very arousing love herb. If you drink a delicious cup of hot Lavender tea you can dream about your loved one and it makes you romantic instantly. If you put lavender under your mattress or pillow you can be sure that you will experience a passionate night with your partner and by adding lavender buds to cookies or cakes you have a true lust stimulant better than oysters. Lavender Aroma: Lavender is grown for the lavender oil that can be extracted from the purple flowers. This oil is used as a fragrance in cosmetics, such as soap and perfume. In addition, lavender oil is used, for example, in aromatherapy. Lavender granules can also be placed in bags in wardrobes. The clothes are thus perfumed by the evaporating essential oil and, according to some, moths are kept away. In addition, the lavender flowers are processed in potpourris. Medical operation: Lavender can be used internally as a tea infusion and externally in the form of aromatherapy. Lavender has a soothing and relieving effect. Lavender essential oil can be used as an antiseptic. Hildegard van Bingen (1098-1179) recommends lavender in an elixir for coughs: "If someone boils Speik lavender (three spoonfuls) in wine (one liter) and often drinks lukewarm, he soothes liver-lung suffering, soothes the dull feeling in his chest and gives him a sharp mind (scientia) and a clear combination gift (ingenium). Whoever has no wine, boils it in water and adds honey." (Causae et Curae, 1150). She also writes in her book Physica that if someone who has a lot of lice smells lavender, the lice will die. Lavender can help with: First degree burns, Sunburn, Superficial wounds, Acne caused by oily skin, Itchy conditions, Eczema, Dewworm, Head Lice, Herpes Labialis or Cold Sore, Sore Throat, Tonsillitis, Oral Mucosal Inflammation and Gingivitis, Bad Breath Nose Cold, Insect Bite Protection and Air Purification Lavender for internal use for psychological complaints: Lavender can help with anxiety disorders. This has been demonstrated in a large-scale study by scientists from Vienna (Austria). The extract of lavender is said to work even better than a modern chemical antidepressant. The scientists published their study in the latest issue of the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology.
