English mining lamp

The Davy Lamp, also known as Davy (and in the Van Dale also daviaan) is a gas lamp which was invented in 1815 by Sir Humphry Davy. The lamp, the presence of hazardous gases such as methane and carbon dioxide are set in an underground coal mine. The deeper in the ground the darker it is. People are naturally not equipped to function with light in a limited space. In prehistoric flint mines of Rijckholt - St. Geertruid we see several shafts together. The farther away from the shaft the less light, until no more could be done. Then a new shaft was made. It has been found that the maximum distance is about 12 meters from tests in Rijckholt.
